How to Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 10 or 11 │ Mac OS │ Android


Windows 10 / 11

Quick Method (Recommended)

  1. Open File Explorer (press Windows key + E)
  2. Click the View tab at the top
  3. Check the box Hidden items
  4. Hidden files/folders appear as faded icons

Full Settings Method

  1. Open File Explorer → ViewOptions (or "Change folder and search options")
  2. Go to the View tab
  3. Under "Hidden files and folders," select Show hidden files, folders, and drives
  4. Click Apply → OK

Access AppData Quickly

  • Press Windows key + R, type %appdata%, press Enter
  • To go to the main AppData folder, click AppData in the address bar


macOS

Instant Shortcut (Fastest)

  • Open Finder, then press: Command (⌘) + Shift + . (period)
  • Hidden files appear as semi-transparent
  • Press the same shortcut again to hide them

Terminal Command (Permanent)

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
killall Finder

Android

  1. Open your File Manager / Files app
  2. Tap the Menu (⋮) or Settings
  3. Enable Show hidden files
  4. Files starting with a dot (e.g., .thumbnails, .nomedia) will now appear
⚠️ Note: Hidden files on Android usually start with a dot (.) and are system/app-related. Be careful when deleting them.
⚠️ Important Reminder
Hidden files are often system or configuration files. Viewing them is safe — but do not delete, rename, or move them unless you know exactly what they do, as this may break your apps or operating system.
